Life with lupus is full of unpredictability. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on things, a flare can appear, testing your patience, strength, and determination. But it’s in these moments of challenge that true courage emerges.
Last year, I faced one of the toughest tests of my resilience. Just days before an important work presentation, I experienced a severe lupus flare. My joints ached, fatigue weighed me down, and every step felt heavy. I was scared. I felt unsure if I could follow through. My body was screaming for rest, yet my responsibilities demanded focus.
Instead of giving in to fear or frustration, I took a deliberate approach. I communicated honestly with my team about my condition, adjusted my schedule, and ensured I took my medications on time. I allowed myself the grace to rest, even when I worried about falling behind. By listening to my body while staying committed to my purpose, I found balance in the storm.
On the day of the presentation, I walked into the room with determination. Every word I spoke, every slide I shared, was a testament to perseverance. Despite the pain and fatigue, I delivered successfully. In that moment, I proved to myself that lupus does not define me. It challenges me, yes—but it does not stop me from living, working, and pursuing my purpose.
This experience became a turning point. I realized that triumph isn’t about avoiding obstacles; it’s about navigating them with courage, planning, and faith in your own strength.
